The History of Mark V Systems
Mark V Systems SA (PTY) Ltd began trading in South Africa originally as a sole proprietor in 1982. Luis da Conceição struck up an agency agreement with Peter Vitulli and James O’melia from New York who owned a company by the same name in the USA and concentrated in the Irish Market.

There are various connotations as to how the name came about but one of the most rational is the following:

Mark - our goal is to set a Mark with our clients to be assured of their continuing support
V - the Roman Symbol 5 symbolizes the continents that we visualize as setting our Mark and offering services too and from
Systems - Our aim to always find the best most effective system to move our clients goods

The prime goal would be to build up consolidated traffic between the two countries by Air and Ocean but also due to the nature of the name other accessorial services to our clients would be offered such as financial and purchasing support as well as transport logistics.
Initially we catered only for one client Asher Geminder (late) from South Continental Devices. Soon, mainly through word of mouth, our good services spread and we found ourselves growing at a steady pace.
During 1983 Mark V Systems became a Proprietary Limited.
In 1986 we joined the International Freight Association (IFA) which gave us access to owner operated offices through out the world.

During 1990 we became an IATA accredited Airfreight agent. In 1996 we registered Conceição International Inc. catering for the road feeder services of Airline Cargo between main airports through out the USA.
In 1999 we absorbed under our banner the operation of Global Freight under the leadership of Mario Toureiro a well respected individual in the South African Customs Clearing and forwarding Scene.
During 1999 we also took over P.T.L. Customs House Brokers Inc. in New York, trading since 1985.

Today Mark V Systems employs 25 people at its main offices in Johannesburg International South Africa, through its vast network of owner operated agents and partners through out the world Mark V Systems has at the click of the mouse a wealth of resources and logistical support employing almost 1000 people ready to process your shipment be it by Air, Ocean, Road or rail. As the international and multinational companies grow larger and clients become mere numbers amongst piles of files medium sized operations such as Mark V Systems will continue to strive towards the following goals:

  1. To considerably improve the standard of service
  2. To substantially reduce the costs
  3. To become our client’s personal friend in time of need
